Patent drawing upscaler
DPI Enhance
Raise a low-resolution drawing to 300 or 600 DPI without blurry, stair-stepped edges. The figure is redrawn at the new size and saved as a pure black-and-white PNG or TIFF with its resolution recorded.
Sharper patent drawings at filing resolution
300 or 600 DPI
A full Letter or A4 sheet keeps its page size at 300 or 600 DPI (3300 × 2550 px for Letter at 300 DPI). A single figure gets a 2048 px (2K) or 4096 px (4K) long edge, about 6.8 inches, the width of the drawing area.
Edges redrawn, not stretched
The drawing is traced to outlines and drawn again at the target size, so lines stay crisp instead of turning soft.
PNG and TIFF
1-bit black-and-white PNG or PackBits TIFF, the formats offices and drafting software expect.
Resolution recorded
The DPI is written into the file, so it opens at the right physical size in Acrobat, Word and patent office tools.
Pure black and white
A threshold slider decides which pixels become black, cleaning up gray scanner noise in the same step.
Private by design
Enhancing runs in your browser; the drawing is never uploaded.
What the DPI enhancer does
Patent offices need drawings at 300 DPI or more at the printed size. A figure exported from a slide deck or saved from a screenshot is often 72 or 96 DPI, and simply resampling it in an image editor gives soft, gray, stair-stepped edges that look worse once printed.
The enhancer traces the black strokes into outlines and renders them again in place, at the full page size for a Letter or A4 sheet or at a 2048 or 4096 pixel long edge for a single figure, then cuts the result to pure black and white. A drawing too complex to trace is resized with high-quality smoothing instead. It sharpens what is there; it does not invent detail that was never drawn.
Choosing between 300 and 600 DPI
- 300 DPI (2K) meets the USPTO and CNIPA minimum and keeps files small. Use it for most line drawings and flowcharts.
- 600 DPI (4K) keeps fine section hatching, small reference numerals and thin lead lines legible after scanning.
- PNG suits most uses; choose TIFF when your docketing system or filing software asks for it.
- If the drawing is still blurry after enhancing, redraw it with Vectorize's line-art method first.
How to enhance a patent drawing
- Upload the drawing as PNG, JPG or WebP, up to 10 MB.
- Pick 2K / 300 DPI or 4K / 600 DPI, PNG or TIFF, and set the black-and-white threshold.
- Run it (20 credits), check the preview and download the file.
